SPARK is an invaluable resource to the Knoxville community, providing many services to the disabled, families of disabled, and organizations who want to be more accessible. I identified a few areas in which they needed assistance and came up with solutions for them. I had the freedom to make minimal changes to the existing branding, but this was not a rebranding project. By introducing brighter colors, a fresh typeface, and subtle tweaks to their mascot, I aimed to elevate their image and help them better connect with their audience.
SPARK runs off of donations and donor contributions and recently they lost a large amount of their funding. Finding new donors and receiving donations from more individuals is needed for them to be able to continue serving the community which they love. In order to raise funding, I designed the Flying Sparks Music Festival - I propose having an all day festival of local music and food hosting Knoxville makers of all sorts. Makers could sell their crafts with a portion of the sales going to SPARK and food trucks would do the same. At the event, SPARK would have a tent where people can learn about their numerous programs and they can buy merchandise that would go directly towards the cause. People attending the event will make a donation in place of a set price for the entry ticket. They will decide how much to donate for their ticket.
While SPARK is an important part of Knoxville, they are not very well known. Raising awareness of the services they provide is very needed for them to serve as many people as they can. This is the second issue I tackled by proposing a coffee shop awareness campaign. Partnering with local businesses would be a great way of connecting with the Knoxville community. There are many coffee shops in the Knoxville area that could put up informational flyers and table toppers spreading awareness of SPARK. I carefully chose a size for the items that would allow spark to print them themselves in order to cut down costs.
SPARK has a very large number of programs and services they offer, which is amazing, but understanding what they are is difficult in the current form of their program guide. The third solution I came up with for them is a newly designed program guide. This booklet takes the information they already have and displays it in a more comprehensive and readable way. By separating the programs onto their own pages the information becomes more digestible. The booklet is also valuable to the reader in that it includes a directory of the different people who work at SPARK. Quotes from people who have actually been impacted by SPARK are sprinkled throughout the booklet to emphasize the impact that SPARK has had on lives.
